A typical example of a reception problem includes the break up of pictures (pixelation) or the picture freezing, sometimes there are clicking or smacking sounds or the sound drops out or there is NO reception at all.

It may be that you find that there are channels missing, or you're receiving channels from the wrong region.Sometimes the interactive services (red button) doesn't work.

There could be a problem with your aerial or set box if there is something wrong with your TV picture or sound. Don't forget that there may be work going on at your local transmitter, or some kind of local interference. Check with the local neighbours or another TV connected to a different aerial in case you are not the only person's aerial affected.. If only your TV is affected, the problem is likely to be in your TV, set-top box or aerial. If other TVs are affected, it's more likely to be caused by work at your local transmitter, or possibly the weather.

Software Upgrade or Faulty Software
The software in your top set box may need resetting, so turn the TV or top set box off and then switch on again.Check the full list of channels in the UK national multiplexes. If you can receive some of the channels in a multiplex but not all, the problem is more likely to be in your set-top box or digital TV.

Transmitter Work
Digital switchover means extensive work is carried out at transmitters. Check Digital UK's Planned Engineering Works for news about your local transmitter.

Faulty Leads and Cables
Check your TV. Are the leads at the back - to the mains, the aerial, the set-top box, the video or DVD player or recorder properly connected? Are any of the leads looking worn or have they been squashed by surrounding furniture. Are the plugs secure?

Any of the aboove can result in a weak signal.

Weather
Sometimes due to unusual atmospheric conditions (high air pressure) picture break-up or even complete loss of reception may occur. There is nothing anyone can do about this and the only solution is to wait for the weather to change! High winds or heavy rain may cause problems in certain circumstances.

TV Aerial
Digital terrestrial television comes to your TV via your aerial, so this may need repairing or upgrading, it may be pointing very slightly in the wrong directionn. The aerial or aerial lead may be broken.

Check the full list of channels in the UK national multiplexes. If all the channels in one of these multiplexes are missing, the problem may be in your aerial.

If your area is covered by more than one digital transmitter, your set-top box or digital TV may pick up signals from the wrong one. Your aerial needs to be in good condition and pointing towards the correct transmitter.

Electrical Interference
Do you notice a problem only when equipment such as your boiler or washing-machine is operating as this may be down to electrical interference.?

There may be an outside source of interference such as an radio broadcasting?
